This course introduces concepts, theories and processes in qualitative research. Aspects which are dealt with include identifying area and topic of research, research objectives; problem statement, formulating research questions; theories and models; literature review; methods of data collection, analysis and interpretation; conclusion and recommendation; report writing and ethical issues and considerations in qualitative research.
This course discusses the nature, foundations. processes and procedures of mixed methods research. Aspects which are dealt with include identifying area and topic of research, research objectives; problem statement, formulating research questions/hypotheses, methods of data collection analysis and interpretation, writing and evaluating a research based on mixed methods. The course also provides guidance on how to write journal articles.
This course provides students with a foundation on the principles and practices of quantitative research and its application in the design and implementation of a research project. Among the quantitative methods emphasized are experimental research designs and the survey method. Various kinds of experimental research designs are introduced together with the procedure for conducting a survey. The design and development of instruments and issues relating to reliability and validity are discussed. The application of basic statistical techniques in quantitative research is also introduced. The final part of the course focuses on the writing of the research proposal based on the quantitative research paradigm.
