Course Overview

If you have dreams of becoming a teacher, or working with young children, you may want to pursue an education in “early childhood education”.

The first few years of a child’s development are pivotal in laying the foundation for their long-term success—and you can be an integral part of it. You will help nurture children in all aspects of development, ensuring their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth.

With the Veritas University College Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ODL), you will acquire the specialised skills needed to be an early childhood educator, and contribute towards the initial development of young learners.

Entry Requirements

  • A pass in SPM or its equivalent, with a minimum of three (3) credits in any subject; OR  
  • A pass in STPM or its equivalent, with a minimum of Grade C (GPA 2.00) in any subject or its equivalent; OR  
  • A pass in UEC with at least Grade B in any 5 subjects OR 
  • Any other qualifications recognised by the university senate

      Guiding Young Children

      This module focuses on the theoretical aspects of early childhood education. You will learn leadership skills, strategies, and techniques to promote emotional and social wellness, and develop the ability to manage young children’s challenging behaviours professionally.

      Professionalism in Early Childhood Education

      This module covers essential professional knowledge and best practices in early childhood education. You will explore professional growth, development, and the ethics of early childhood educators.

      Play in Early Childhood Education

      This module explores the link between play, learning, and child development. You will also design play activities and toys that support children's growth.

      Learning Skills for Online Distance Learning 1  

      This module develops skills for open and distance learning, covering learning management, information retrieval, and study skills like note-taking and exam preparation.

      Language, Communication and Literacy Development

      This module covers the development of language, literacy, and listening skills in young children, focusing on theories, activities, and strategies for using materials and digital resources to promote literacy.

      Early Learning and Early Environment in Early Childhood Education

      This module focuses on the importance of a conducive environment, health, and safety in child development. It covers the use of materials and digital resources in early learning curriculum delivery.

      Early Mathematics

      This module teaches you to plan developmentally appropriate mathematics learning through daily routines and activities. You will learn to prepare materials and digital resources, creating an active learning environment that fosters curiosity and confidence.

      Arts and Crafts in Early Childhood Education

      This module introduces you to creativity theories and principles in early childhood art education. It explores a child's creative process to deepen your understanding of their growth and development.

      Health, Safety and Nutrition for Young Children

      This module focuses on health, safety, and nutrition for young children. It covers nutrition policies and procedures, food and nutrient basics, safety, and how to maximise a child’s potential through health.

      Social Studies in Early Childhood Education

      In this module, you will explore the philosophy and theories of social studies, along with personal skills in managing identity, environmental, cultural, and critical issues in the lives of young children.

      Partnering with Families in Early Childhood Education

      This module introduces you to the concept of family, exploring various definitions and family-oriented early childhood education. It covers the framework of family-school cooperation and helps you understand communication at the early stages of the relationship between school and family.

      MPU Modules

      Appreciation of Ethics and Civilisation (Malaysian students)

      This module helps you understand ethical appreciation, focusing on compliance with the National Principles, government policies, unity efforts, and national development. You will also learn about Malaysian history before and after independence and the efforts to build the nation's civilisation.

      Malaysian Studies 1 (International students)

      This module teaches you the basics of the Malay language for effective communication. You will also learn to read, write, and understand simple sentences and paragraphs in Malay.

      Observation and Assessment in Early Childhood Education

      This module explores strategies for observing and assessing children's development. You will learn systematic methods to observe and assess, fostering nurturing relationships through a non-threatening approach.

      Early Science and Technology in Early Childhood Education

      This module introduces you to teaching science and technology, focusing on its development through materials and digital resources in early learning. You will explore instruction, curriculum, and strategies to become an effective science and technology teacher.

      Curriculum Planning and Development in Early Childhood Education

      This module introduces you to the philosophy, theories, principles, and models of programme planning in early childhood care and education. You will learn about scheduling, evaluation for continuous improvement, and various curriculum approaches and organisational strategies.

      Spiritual and Moral Values in Early Childhood Education

      This module focuses on instilling moral and spiritual values in young learners. You will develop effective interpersonal skills and explore various approaches to teaching these values, integrating them with social and cultural aspects, and creating activities based on moral principles.

      Early Childhood Education Administration and Management

      This module covers the Child Care Act, nursery and preschool setup requirements, operational guidelines, and financial planning, along with marketing and staff development.

      Special Needs in Early Childhood Education

      This module teaches you to identify, modify activities, assess, and provide support for children with special needs, equipping you with the skills to deliver effective education.

      Music, Drama and Movement in Early Childhood Education

      This module introduces teaching music, drama, and movement in early childhood, highlighting their importance in enhancing other learning areas. It covers theory, methodologies, practical activities, and their role in the curriculum.

      Practicum 1 (TASKA)

      This practicum module offers hands-on experience in a TASKA, introducing you to the challenges and responsibilities of teaching young children in such a setting.

      Practicum 2 (TADIKA)

      This practicum provides hands-on experience in a TADIKA, where you will learn about the challenges and responsibilities of teaching young children in this setting.
